The Pinckneyville Panthers improved its record to 20-4 and 7-0 in the conference with a 53-38 win over A-J at Thomas Gym. (click on the image to view the picture gallery.)
The Lady Panthers would not denied a win on Senior Night, upsetting Du Quoin 51-49. Prior to the game, seniors Lindsey Winter, Emma Opp and Claire Wittenauer were honored. The Panthers improved to 13-14; Du Quoin is now 22-6. Pinckneyville finishes on the road against Sparta Feb. 2 before entering regional play next week. (click on image to view the picture gallery)
Game MVP Payton Nippe poured in 21 points to lead the Pinckneyville Panthers to a 66-55 win over Alton at the annual Panther Showcase on Saturday. The win came one evening after the team beat Carterville on the road. The Panthers are now 19-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play. It hosts Anna-Jonesboro Feb. 3 at Thomas Gym. PCHS Varsity Cheerleaders will perform at 11:25 a.m., Feb. 3 at the IHSA State Cheerleading Finals in Bloomington. You can watch them live on the IHSA website, www.ihsa.org.

The Pinckneyville Panthers' drubbing of the  Du Quoin Indians Friday night sets up a scenario of the team hosting its first IHSA playoff game ever. The Panthers, (5-2, 3-1) must defeat Sparta this week at home and Dupo on the road for that to happen. The game against Sparta Oct. 14 is Pinckneville's homecoming and over the weekend the cheerleaders were out painting storefront windows and gin up excitement. The Lady Panther volleyball squad dropped a conference matchup against Nashville Thursday, 25-20 and 25-14. Pinckneyville is now 1-5 in conference play. (click on image to view the picture gallery)
The Pinckneyville Panthers won its second conference game in a row, thrashing Nashville 38-15 at home Friday night. The Panthers were led by quarterback Bryant Shute who passed for 123 yards and two touchdowns and another 100-plus yards on the ground and three TDs. Justin Hale was also strong on the ground with 89 yards while Cole Kellerman had three catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. The Panthers travel to Du Quoin to face its arch rival this week. The Pinckneyville Panthers whipped Anna-Jonesboro 26-13 in a game that extended from Friday night to Saturday afternoon due to weather.. The Panthers are now 3-2 and host Nashville on Sept. 30. (click on the image to view the picture gallery)

The Pinckneyville pom-pon team won second place in Class A Kick  at the state competition in Champaign Saturday. Steve Cannedy was also honored for his 28 years of commitment to the poms including serving as member of the board of the Illinois Drill Team Association. The Pinckneyville Panthers battled back from a 15-2 deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter against the Du Quoin Indians for the first time but couldn't hold on to it. Du Quoin won the regional final 46-44 and advances on to sectional play in Harrisburg next week. The Panthers (20-9) were led in scoring by Chris Shopinski with 14 points. Steve Brueggeman added 11. A little bit of overnight skullduggery was perpetrated on Pinckneyville Thursday night as Du Quoin Indians put up an anti-Panther sign on Water Street in front of Poe's Plumbing. The placard was placed in front of the row of rally signs the PCHS cheerleaders put up in support of the local team. One thing is certain though, if it hopes to win  a regional title, Du Quoin has to go through Pinckneyville.
The Pinckneyville pom-pon took firsts in Kick and Poms and qualified for state in those two categories, as well as in Lyrical at a regional competition in Benton Saturday. Alicia Luthy also earned a "Rising Star Award" at the event. The squad travels to the University of Illinois March 12 for the finals. (click on the image to view the photo gallery)
