FEELING FROGGY? YOU WILL

The feeling of having a frog in one’s throat is taking on a new meaning with the opening of a new treat stand in Pinckneyville.

Jamie Cope has opened The Frigid Frog on the parking lot of Perry County Market Place, serving up iced concoctions that are beat-the-heat tasty. This isn’t run-of-the-mill flavored ice, mind you. Frigid Frog treats are made with shaved ice that Cope describes as being as fine as “powdered snow.”

There are 35 flavors from the traditional favorites like banana, root beer and strawberry to the exotic including “Tiger’s Blood”, “Wedding Cake” and “Cotton Candy.”  Cope said new flavors will be added regularly with cappuccino coming soon. Any order can come “straight up” or have condensed milk and vanilla or even ice cream added. It can be topped off with whipped cream.

Those purchasing a glow-in-the-dark wristband for $2 receive 10 percent Frigid Frog treats each time they return.

The can’t-be-missed bright blue trailer also serves BBQ sandwiches, chips and soda with outdoor seating nearby. Cope said nachos will soon be added to the menu.

The Frigid Frog is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. throughout the summer.
