The rally included an internet hookup with members of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce who thanked the volunteers and the community for its generosity. It also featured talks by Pinckneyville Mayor Augie Kellerman, Brad and John Perry of Contempri Homes and Tony and Gary Philpot of Joplin.
Gary Philpot presented Kellerman with a proclamation from the Missouri State Senate recognizing Pinckneyville for its help in the project.
Contempri Homes was invited by the Philpots, who own Sherwood Forest Homes, to participate in the TV show’s effort. In turn, it asked the residents of Pinckneyville to volunteer their time to help build the house. Construction begins at midnight Friday and is expected to be completed by mid-afternoon on Sunday.
The public is invited to a send off party and BBQ at the Fairgrounds on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. where they can sign well wishes on the plastic sheeting in which the structure will be wrapped.
Music at Wednesday’s rally was provided by the PCHS Jazz Band. The PCHS cheerleaders were also on hand to distribute t-shirts to the volunteers and lead the gathering in reciting the school song. The event opened with local Boys and Girls Scouts leading the crowd in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The event was sponsored by First National Bank in Pinckneyville.
